Summer Youth Employment Program

Since 2004, the Carl & Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation's Summer Youth Employment Program has supported summer internships for more than 692 Minnesota high school students.

In 2009, the Foundation will partner with five associations to once again provide internships to high school students throughout Minnesota. The five associations are:

• Independent Community Bankers of Minnesota
• Minnesota Newspaper Association
• Printing Industry of Minnesota
• West Broadway Business and Area Coalition
• Northeast Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce

There are two main goals for the 2009 Summer Youth Employment Program:

• Create meaningful temporary (8-12 weeks) employment for youth between the ages of 16-19 who would benefit from the opportunity.
• Expose youth to careers in the banking, newspaper, business, printing and nonprofit industries.

This summer more than 170 high school students have been hired in businesses and nonprofits throughout the state with a special emphasis on hiring north Minneapolis youth through the Step Up Summer Jobs program.  More information can be found at AchieveMpls.org.
