Increasing Energy Efficiency Project Fund

Earlier this year, the Pohlad Family Foundation pledged $20 million to help small businesses retain jobs and plan for future growth, improve neighborhoods hardest hit by the housing crisis, and ensure critical nonprofit services for families.  The majority of these funds have been allocated to a few nonprofit intermediaries for distribution.  However, $1.25 million is available to increase energy efficiency in rental structures owned and/or managed by nonprofit affordable housing groups in areas hardest hit by foreclosures in the state: Minneapolis (55411) and St. Paul (55106).  
 

Funding will be provided to projects that reduce energy consumption -- other “green” activities such as reducing water use and lead abatement do not qualify for support.  Grants of up to $30,000 per unit or $120,000 per organization are available.  Qualified expenses are listed on the application, including energy audits, which are required prior to applying and after completion of the project.  Please note that – all applicants will receive grants for the cost of an energy audit, even if their proposed project is not selected for support.

Applications are due no later than June 15, 2009 and funding decisions will be made on or before July 8.   We understand this is a very short timeframe, however, believe it is necessary so that selected grantees can complete their projects before the winter heating seasons arrives.
