POHLAD FAMILY FOUNDATION APPROVES MORE THAN $600,000 IN GRANTS

Foundation earmarks $250,000 for summer camp programs

MINNEAPOLIS — June 10, 1999 — More than 500 youth will have the opportunity to attend camp this summer through a scholarship program funded by the Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation, a private grantmaking organization.

The Pohlad Family Foundation awarded $250,000 in camp scholarship funds to 40 nonprofit organizations serving children and families in Minnesota. Grants to organizations will allow for up to $500 to be spent in summer camp tuition per participating child. Organizations funded represent a diverse array of nonprofit agencies, from Cass County/Leech Lake Childrens Initiative in Walker, Minn. to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Minneapolis.

“Our family believes summer camp experiences help children grow in many ways,” said Bill Pohlad, president of the Pohlad Family Foundation. “We’re delighted that our first major grant program will help kids who would otherwise not be able to attend summer camp.”

The scholarship funds are part of more than $600,000 in grants announced today by the Pohlad Family Foundation. Representative grants include commitments to major capital campaigns, including $75,000 to Project for Pride in Living; $50,000 to The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library; and $25,000 to St. David’s Child Development and Family Services.
