POHLAD FAMILY FOUNDATION AWARDS $4.5 MILLION IN GRANTS

Summer Camp Scholarship Grants awarded to 37 agencies statewide Archdiocese of St. Paul and Guthrie Theatre receive large capital grants

MINNEAPOLIS – March 15, 2002 — The Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation recently awarded 123 grants totaling $4.5 million. Most grant recipients are Minnesota nonprofit organizations that work directly with disadvantaged youth and families.

Thirty-seven organizations located throughout the state of Minnesota will receive $260,000 in grants for summer camp scholarship support. These organizations estimate that grant funds will allow 925 youth to attend a residential summer camp of their choice.

Other notable grants include a $1 million grant to the Growing in Faith Campaign of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and a $2 million grant to the Guthrie Theater’s capital campaign. “We are pleased to assist the Archdiocese in providing scholarship support for students who wish to attend catholic schools and to support the important work of Catholic Charities,” said Bill Pohlad, president of the foundation. “Support for the new Guthrie Theater recognizes the artistic excellence and economic impact the organization has on the Twin Cities and Minnesota.”

The Foundation also approved a $110,000 grant to the St. Paul Public Schools. Grants funds will be allocated to 100 economically-disadvantaged students so that they can purchase after-school academic enrichment services. The families of most selected students will qualify for the Minnesota Education Tax Credit and the program will allow them to access refunds to finance qualifying education services in future years.

The Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation is a private family foundation focused on improving the lives of economically disadvantaged families and children. The Foundation current has $10 million in assets. The Foundation carries out its mission by providing support to nonprofit organizations through a community grants program, by creating its own initiatives or directing support to organizations that are important to family members.
