POHLAD FAMILY FOUNDATION AWARDS SUMMER CAMP GRANTS
Contract with Minnesota Minority Education Partnership should increase program impact
MINNEAPOLIS – April 3, 2001 — The Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation awarded 34 grants totaling $260,000 to organizations throughout Minnesota that work directly with disadvantaged youth and families. Grantees identify youth, ages 10-15, who would benefit from residential camping experiences, award scholarships, and assist youth and their families in the selection and preparation for camp.
“We select our grantees after closely reviewing the organization’s ability to effectively serve youth and families,” said Marina Munoz Lyon, Vice President of the Foundation. “Grantees use these funds to provide an additional service to their clients.”
Since its inception, the program has enabled more than 1,500 Minnesota youth to attend accredited camps of their choice. In 2001, it is anticipated that at least 700 more youth will attend camp. To increase the total number of youth served this year, the Foundation also contracted with the Minnesota Minority Education Program to assist grantee organizations in registering youth for academic camps that are eligible for other, public support.
The Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation is a private family foundation focused on improving the lives of economically disadvantaged families and children. With over $14 million in assets, the Foundation carries out its mission by providing support to nonprofit organizations through a community grants program, by creating its own initiatives or directing support to organizations that are important to family members.
The Foundation is part of the Pohlad Family Charities, an umbrella organization that also includes the Minnesota Twins Community Fund and Marquette Financial Companies Community Support Program. Together, the three entities distribute charitable funds or operate programs totaling several million dollars annually.
