POHLAD FAMILY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES AFTER-SCHOOL INITATIVE
Foundation expands focus on educational services to disadvantaged youth
MINNEAPOLIS – May 13, 2003 — The Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation has developed a new funding initiative to support effective after-school programs for youth in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The primary objective of the After-School Services Program is to positively impact the educational success of youth. Research has shown that effective after-school programs can lead to improvements in students’ attendance, academic achievement and other behaviors and characteristics that are important to educational success.
“The Foundation believes that strong, affordable after-school programs are a key component of helping disadvantaged youth succeed in school and develop leadership skills,” said Marina Lyon, Vice President of the Pohlad Family Foundation. “We expect grants from this initiative to support some of the most effective programs in Minneapolis and St. Paul.”
This new grant program expands the Foundation’s support for youth education and enrichment services. The Foundation also provides Summer Camp and College Scholarships to Minnesota youth who are economically disadvantaged.
The Foundation will award $250,000 in After-School Services grants for use during the 2003-04 school year. A complete Request for Proposals and a required grant application form is available on the Foundation’s website: www.pohladfamilycharities.org
Founded in 1994, the mission of the Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation is to improve the lives of economically disadvantaged families and children, and also participate in projects that maintain or improve the quality of life in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area.
