Foundation awards $300,000 in grants to assist Minneapolis and St. Paul students
August 18, 2003 — The Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation recently announced 18 grants totaling $300,000 to non-profit organizations that operate after-school programs for youth in Minneapolis and St. Paul. These grants, the result of a new Foundation initiative, expand the Foundation’s support for youth education and enrichment services.
Among the approved grants are: $50,000 to Admission Possible for services that help 11th and 12th grade students gain admission to college and expansion of services to 9th and 10th graders; $20,000 to Youth Farm and Market for a program that teaches students gardening and entrepreneurial skills; and $10,000 for Project Spirit, a tutoring and enrichment program for St. Paul African-American students sponsored by The St. Paul Area Council of Churches.
The 18 organizations awarded grants expect to serve more than 3,600 youth during the 2003-04 school year. Eight of the grantees provide services exclusively in Minneapolis, five exclusively in St. Paul, and five have program locations in both cities.
The Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation is a private family foundation. Since 1999, the Foundation has approved more than $12.5 million in grants. The Foundation provides grant support through its own initiatives that support families and children and build stronger communities, by participating in major community projects, or directing support to organizations of interest and importance to family members.
